Importing rides: which files count and why

What makes a ride 'qualifying' and how imports refine your CdA.

Supported files

WattGap reads .FIT, .GPX and .TCX files. Power data is required for aero learning; rides without power are stored but do not refine CdA.

Qualifying rides

A ride qualifies for learning when it is outdoor, averages at least 15 mph and 140 W, covers 8+ miles, has wind at or below 8 mph and climbs no more than 100 ft per mile. Wind comes from historical weather data for the ride's time and place.

Clean segments

Within each ride WattGap looks for steady stretches — pedaling, steady speed, near-flat road. With five or more clean minutes, only those segments are used; otherwise the whole-ride average is used.

When blending starts

After 10 qualifying rides your measured CdA starts blending into the reference figure, capped at 20% influence so one odd ride can't swing the model.
